Mirkarimi to Attend ‘Healing Arts’ Festival to Combat Violence Against Women; Rejects Mayor’s Proposal About Domestic Violence Oversight

While some women want to remove him from office, others are willing to offer Ross Mirkarimi healing.

Some women want to remove Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi from office. Others want to honor him.
It’s hot or cold for the sheriff, who pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of false imprisonment stemming from a fight from his wife, and then survived Mayor Ed Lee’s attempt to remove him from office for official misconduct. On Nov. 24, the Guardianas de la Vida will recognize him during an event to mark the United Nations’ annual International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Girls, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

The “healing arts festival” will deal with “femicide, an epidemic that crosses borders,” according to the event’s organizers. Healer MamaCoatl says the group is about giving “men and women who have endured violence” a space to heal.
The sheriff and his family will attempt to heal. Mirkarimi’s wife, Venezuelan TV actress Eliana Lopez, and the couple’s young son may also attend.
Political consultant Andrea Shorter is considering whether her well-funded group will pursue a recall of the sheriff. Ron Conway, a technology investor and venture capitalist on very close terms with Lee, has bankrolled Shorter’s group.
